CSIAM organizes "National Sci-Tech Workers Day" science promotion activities
When the first National Sci-Tech Workers Day (May 30) is about to come, CSIAM, the Operations Research Society of China, and the Beijing Teenager Science and Technology Club jointly organizes science promotion activities, inviting the mathematicians to deliver science lectures in Beijing primary and middle schools.
On the morning of May 14, Wenlin Li, researcher in the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivers a speech entitled The Dream of René Descartes—from Descartes Geometry to Mathematics Mechanization.
On the afternoon of May 25, Xudong Hu, researcher in the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gives a talk on Mathematics and Information in Beijing Jingshan School.
On the afternoon of May 26, Cuihong Yang, researcher in the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gives a talk on Mathematics and Economics in Beijing No. 8 High School.
Each science lecture lasts for 1.5 hours, including a lively question-and-answer session. The mathematicians explain to the students the broad application of mathematics in various fields in an interesting, vivid and interactive way. The students show great admiration for the mathematicians' knowledge and persistence.
These science promotion activities are well supported by the schools, many of which express their hope to organize such science lectures again in the near future.
